By far, the best Vietnamese food I had here in Singapore

Paper Rice Vietnamese Kitchen — Located at Plaza Singapura #01–55

Directly Opposite from Starbucks

I was on my weekly self-care routine of pampering myself with good food and some alone time as well as shopping for Christmas gifts at Plaza Sing. And I was craving for some Vietnamese food so I thought to stop by at Nam Nam but was shocked to be greeted by a new Vietnamese store that took over Nam Nam. It was their 8th day of opening as of 14 Dec 2021.

I was hesitant to step in at first because there was no physical menu to browse through. I had to ask one of the staff for help and she told me to scan the QR code located on the tables to view the menu. (https://order.paperrice.com.sg/products)

But since I was in need of some good food and a place to spend some money on myself, I decided to give this place a shot.

Bar Counter

Had to grab myself a seat at the bar counter because I’m a sucker for high stools.

Sitting at the bar counter, I had the chance to watch the staff make the drinks. And their coffee… IT WAS AS AUTHENTIC AS IT COULD HAVE GOTTEN! Exactly like the ones I fell in love with years ago when I visited Ho Chi Minh city. Vietnamese Drip Coffee is ultra sweet and thick. I knew I had to get the coffee.

They offer set meals (+$4.90) between 11am - 5pm which includes an appetiser & a drink. However, the coffee was an additional $1.50 on top of the set meal price. Total cost for set meal alone: $6.40

Weirdly enough, an ala-carte Pork Banh Mi costs $9.50 but their set which consists of a side of Spring Roll (Chicken/Pork/Prawn/Mushroom) & a drink costs only $14.20 (+$4.70 more for Spring Roll & Coffee)

So I decided to go for their Pork Banh Mi, Grilled Chicken Spring Roll & Ice Vietnamese Coffee with Milk.

The waitress who served me was kind & professional. She asked if I wanted to be served by their robot or by herself. Of course, I chose the latter option since interaction with waiter/waitress is all part of the dining experience.

The coffee did not fail to impress. It was exactly like the ones I drank in Vietnam.

While the spring roll may look small and underwhelming, I can assure you that it’s because of the picture. These spring rolls were huge and were surely wrapped to the fullest. I was completely full by the time I was done eating the 2 spring roll and was worried about how I was going to finish my main course.

Pork Banh Mi

By the looks of the Banh Mi, you could probably tell that the portion size was enormous for one person. I was shocked when the waitress served me the Banh Mi.

The grilled pork was super tasty and I loved the char on the meat. It reminded me of my time in the Philippines where we had outdoor barbeque. The pickled vegetable was chunky and nicely seasoned. It complimented the meat well.

Had to dabao the remaining half of the Banh Mi (which I ended up eating for dinner).

It’s really rare to find a place that serves authentic food to this level. I’m glad I stumbled upon this hidden gem!

This is my opinion based on the one item that I had at this restaurant. It’s been a long time since I was impressed by any food or by restaurant. I’m no food blogger, neither am I someone who knows big descriptive words for food. However, the reason I’m writing this is because this place really left a good impression on me. I would definitely come back again. This time, I will be bringing friends so I get to try more food!
